it’s great when people who genuinely have a love for the arts decide to take an active role in supporting artistic ventures (in this case, adventures).
in a country that provides absolutely no state funding for the english theatre arts, performing companies have had no recourse but to constantly seek commercial backing. and commerce right now, is not interested in the arts. yes, there are the few exceptions but these are rarities. also, those willing to invest significant amounts in a theatrical enterprise will inevitably opt for a ’safe’ production – a popular comedy or musical.
what happens then to a theatre company that defines itself as experimental? whose signature mark has always been to take risks and present new methods and mediums of expression?
our productions are never easy, focusing frequently on sexual, social and intellectual politics. humour, sorrow and food for thought are all rolled into one, there are no easy solutions, and its hard to fit into any category neatly.
since the market went dark on alcohol and tobacco, mind adventures lost the only backers capable of taking risks and has quite frankly struggled. yet we believe that adding another layer of expression to the already diverse (and under funded!) sphere of english theatre, is vital.
of late, we have begun looking for patrons of the arts. people who genuinely believe that there is much to be gained in supporting all art forms – especially at this crucial time in our country, when so much depends on promoting reconciliation, tolerance and understanding. history has ample instances of a blossoming of golden ages in culture and learning in times of peace. and since time immemorial, these movements have always been supported by the cornerstones of patronage.
mind adventures is proud to announce our very first patron – ms.tasneem moosajee. tasneem has been coming for our shows since we first began ten years ago, and has now generously stepped up to lend us her backing in our continued adventures. we thank her wholeheartedly for the trust she has placed in us, and look forward to many more years of friendship and a great theatrical partnership.
