mind adventures

an experimental theatre company set up in sri lanka in 1999.

another opening, another show

i started blogging mainly to promote a show that has been in the works for about 10 years now. poor ‘in camera’…i can never seem to get it together. either the wrong cast, or in this case, the wrong time.

happily, things have worked out so well with ‘lookin thru my earphones’ that here we (my cast and i) stand on the brink of yet another opening night. here’s a press article if you want to know what it’s all about.
we were at barefoot until about 1.30am ironing out the wrinkly bits in order to put a slick show together. it lasts no more than half an hour, and moves fairly seamlessly between pieces. the evening on the whole however, is meant to be very informal and laid back. it’s not a play – it’s performance poetry.

if this works, there are many more local writers whom mind adventures will be featuring, so this is where you play a part in the whole process. give us your feedback. let us know what you liked and didn’t like. it’s vital for the success of any production company to understand their public, and to have a good idea of what they want.

the main aim behind this venture is to promote local artistes by putting up frequent, low budget productions which showcase their talent. the main goal is to attract a permanent sponsor who will be cool enough not to interfere in the artistic process but who has a genuine committment to promoting home grown sri lankan talent.

there are more new pictures for you to check out, and whether you come or not, spare a quick minute to send us your good vibes : )

cheers!

big love and respect to the following:

mike – for his new brand of truly cool sri lankan poetry, take a leaf out of his pages. go beyond the norm.

akhry – as always, always there.

deshan – for love, photography and an unending supply of smokes : )

dom, naz and mo – nowhere would you find more supportive, genuinely interested and unflappable hosts.

nigel – master at the art of finding the most perfect music for the occasion.

suba, tash, vrai and mica – for crewing, sewing, selling, chillin’

larraine and jude from masters advertising for all their help.

my totally fabulous, utterly eloquent, lovely, amazing, supercool super talented cast (shall i count the ways in which you all make my day?)

Trace, the evening was excellent and I really really enjoyed myself. With poetry like Masii’s it’s really upto the performer to flesh it out, and I loved the way mood and aspect and the way Masii’s funky fusion-speak, which is utterly perform-able was brought to life. Bravo, for a superb interpretive production.

I really hope you do lots more evenings like this, I’ve never really liked going to readings (often poets and writers are never articulate enough with their own stuff), but yesterday was exceptional. You’ve also got a fabulously talented and versatile bunch of individuals to do this sort of thing often, yesterday was superbly cast.

I’d love to see more ‘Man on the Run’ type poetry where the piece is performed chorally and the choreagraphy needs to be sharp, the timing of that particular piece was spot on. Really enjoyed it, hope you have a really good evening tonight as well.
